Kofi Kingston, a prominent member of the wrestling faction New Day, has voiced his support for the recent expansion efforts by WWE, calling them “really, really cool.” Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Kingston highlighted the organization’s initiatives, including in-ring sponsorships and an increase in international Premium Live Events (PLEs). He noted that such advancements should have been implemented much earlier.
“We are in such a special time right now,” Kingston stated. “WWE has always been about expanding and branching out into different areas. But I feel like in the past year and a half, two years, we have really just kind of sunk our teeth into anything and everything that we possibly can.”
Kingston specifically mentioned the introduction of advertisements in the ring, referencing products like Slim Jim and Prime as innovative methods for interaction. He emphasized that these developments reflect WWE’s commitment to its global audience.
“Our international shows this year have been remarkable,” he continued. “We’ve had so many Premium Live Events overseas, including the upcoming Clash in Paris and Crown Jewel in Australia. It’s wild to see how we can keep on pushing the boundaries. Our worldwide fan base deserves to experience live shows, and we are doing our best to reach them.”
Collaborations and Upcoming Events
In addition to WWE’s expansion, Kingston expressed excitement about collaborations with other wrestling promotions, particularly TNA Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA. Following WWE’s acquisition of AAA earlier this year, the two organizations are set to host a Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas on September 12, 2023. Kingston and his New Day partner, Xavier Woods, will compete in a AAA Tag Team title match against Psycho Clown and Pagano.
“Getting to wrestle for the AAA Tag Team titles is going to be amazing at Worlds Collide,” Kingston remarked. “I’m still kind of in awe that it’s actually even happening. We have a chance to bring some more tag team gold to the New Day side.”
Worlds Collide is scheduled to stream live on YouTube in both English and Spanish, starting at 22:00 Eastern Time. The event is set to be headlined by a match between El Hijo del Vikingo and Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship, promising an exciting night for wrestling fans.
As WWE continues to expand its reach and foster collaborations with other wrestling organizations, Kingston’s enthusiasm reflects a broader excitement among fans and wrestlers alike about the future of the sport.
