
Savannah State University’s offensive lineman Kishawn Palmore has been named to the preseason All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) football team. This recognition highlights Palmore’s skills as he enters his junior year with the Tigers, following a commendable high school career at Colquitt County.
Palmore, who previously earned All-Region honors as an offensive tackle, served as a team captain during his senior year at Colquitt County in 2022. Under his leadership, the Packers achieved an impressive record of 13-1.
Football Scrimmages and Rankings
As the football season approaches, Colquitt County fans will have the opportunity to see Benedictine, their season-opening opponent, in action. The Cadets are scheduled to face Camden County in a scrimmage on August 8, 2025. Meanwhile, Colquitt County will participate in a scrimmage against Bainbridge on August 7. Other matchups include Tift County versus Brooks County, which will feature teams from Region 1-6A.
In the latest MaxPreps 2025 Preseason Top 100, Colquitt County is ranked No. 90. Among Georgia teams, Grayson holds the highest position at No. 4, while Thomas County Central, North Gwinnett, Lee County, and Lowndes follow closely behind in the rankings.
According to the Georgia High School Football Daily, 55 teams in Georgia have achieved over 200 wins since the year 2000. Colquitt County stands out with a total of 224 victories. Lowndes leads the current Region 1-6A teams with 238 wins, while Benedictine has secured 208 wins. Notably, Buford holds the record for the most wins since 2000, with an impressive 331.
Former Players Transition to Coaching Roles
A number of former Colquitt County players are stepping into head coaching positions at various high schools this season. Phillip Brown, a former assistant coach, begins his second year at Dodge County after leading the team to a 9-3 record last season. Robert Craft returns for his ninth season at North Forsyth, where he holds a 49-47 record, with last year’s team finishing at 5-5.
Jeff Hammond, now in his fourth year at Worth County, has guided the Rams to a 22-13 record, including a successful 9-4 season in 2024 that saw them reach the Class 1A-Division I quarterfinals. Shelton Felton resumes his fifth year at Valdosta, where he has a record of 29-16 after a 9-3 season last year.
Additionally, Chad Nighbert, a former assistant coach at Colquitt County, has been appointed as the head football coach at Brookwood High School. His previous roles included coaching linebackers and serving as co-defensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020.
Bill Ragans begins his second season as the head coach at Lawton Chiles High in Tallahassee, following a 3-7 record last year. Scott Roberts, in his eleventh season at Swainsboro, has achieved an overall record of 83-40, despite a 4-7 performance last year.
Meanwhile, Granger Shook returns to Pike Road High, which finished with a 10-4 record last season. Cook High, under head coach Byron Slack, has a combined record of 23-14 over three seasons, despite a 4-7 record last year.
Finally, Dacula experienced a 4-7 season with head coach Reggie Stancil, who has shown improvement after a 1-9 record in his first year.
With the football season on the horizon, the spotlight will be on players like Kishawn Palmore and the upcoming games that will set the stage for an exciting year in collegiate and high school football.
