New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart (6) gets ready for the offense to take the field during a week 9 game between New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025.

The New York Giants faced a challenging home game against the San Francisco 49ers on November 5, 2023, marked by a significant presence of 49ers supporters at MetLife Stadium. The Giants were unable to overcome this disadvantage, suffering a 34-24 defeat that left their season record at 2-7. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart expressed his thoughts on the overwhelming support for the visiting team during the match.

Dart described the atmosphere, stating, “That was interesting. I’ve never played at a home game where I felt like it was kind of lopsided in that department. But they have a good fan base, and they traveled well,” according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. The noticeable absence of Giants fans, who opted to sell their tickets instead of attending, highlighted the team’s struggles, having recorded just 11 wins against 32 losses since the start of the 2023 season.

The Giants’ disappointing performance has raised questions about the future of the franchise. Team co-owner John Mara may consider changes in management, potentially parting ways with general manager Joe Schoen or head coach Brian Daboll as early as January. Additionally, with the trade deadline approaching on November 7, 2023, Mara might also explore trading players to acquire future draft assets.

Injuries have compounded the Giants’ difficulties, with offensive stars Malik Nabers suffering a torn ACL and meniscus and rookie running back Cam Skattebo dealing with a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula, and ruptured deltoid ligament. Both players are expected to be sidelined until next season.

Reflecting on the loss, Dart remarked, “It’s not fun to lose. I have all the confidence in the world each and every week that we are going to win.” He acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities, emphasizing the need for improved performance on both offense and defense: “We just need to play better football all around as a team, both sides of the ball, special teams.”

Dart, who has taken on the role of starting quarterback since Week 3, has provided a spark for the team. As of November 6, 2023, he is the betting favorite for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, with odds at -130, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Despite Dart’s impressive development, the Giants’ defense has struggled significantly, allowing 105 points over the last nine quarters of play.

Dart urged his teammates to maintain focus and resilience in the face of adversity, stating, “Good plays are going to happen for the other team. That’s just the league that we play in, and we can’t let one lead to another.” He called for an increase in intensity and a collective belief that they can turn their fortunes around: “We have to have the intensity, the focus as a whole team to weather the adversity storms.”

The Giants will look to rebound when they face the Chicago Bears on November 9, 2023. As of November 6, ESPN BET has positioned New York as a 3.5-point underdog in that matchup. The team hopes to regain momentum and bring their fan base back to MetLife Stadium.
