High school football fans in the San Gabriel Valley are gearing up for an exciting Thursday night, as several crucial games take place on November 2, 2023. This week marks the tenth game of the season, featuring intense matchups that will determine league titles and playoff standings.

Key Matchups in Focus

One of the most anticipated games is between the Charter Oak Chargers and the Bonita Bearcats. Scheduled for 19:00 (7 p.m.), this face-off is not only a rematch from last season but also a decisive contest for the Sierra League title. Last year, Bonita overwhelmed Charter Oak, establishing a 28-0 lead and eventually winning 49-21. However, the Chargers are a different team this season. With an impressive record of 8-1 and a perfect 4-0 in league play, they are led by standout linebacker JD Sanchez and quarterback Corin Berry, who has thrown for 1,794 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Bonita, now 6-3 and also 4-0 in the league, has faced challenges, notably the absence of star running back Joseph Lara due to a torn ACL. Nevertheless, quarterback Travis Lippert has returned strong from an ankle injury, and the Bearcats’ defense has been formidable, limiting their last seven opponents to 14 points or fewer.

Other Crucial Contests

In another key game, Northview Vikings (7-3, 3-1) will visit West Covina Bulldogs (7-3, 4-0) at 19:00. This matchup could have significant implications for the Valle Vista League title. Northview suffered a surprising setback last week against Alta Loma, losing 21-20, and now needs a victory to share the league title with West Covina. Northview’s star receiver Isaiah Lucero is currently questionable due to an injury, which may impact their performance. The Vikings will depend on quarterback Robert Lucero and receiver Jaishon Bledshoe to lead their offense.

On the other hand, West Covina has exceeded expectations this season, clinching at least a share of the league title after defeating Diamond Ranch 35-13 last week. Their junior quarterback Elvis Irvin has been impressive, surpassing 1,000 yards in passing with 12 touchdowns. The Bulldogs have established a strong running game, averaging 227 yards per game, with Moses Gogue leading the charge.

Another match to watch is between Gabrielino Eagles (7-2, 4-1) and El Monte Lions (7-2, 5-0), also scheduled for 19:00. El Monte aims for the outright Mission Valley League title after a dominant performance this season, including a 41-7 victory over Arroyo. Quarterback Alex Aleman has thrown for 2,198 yards and 20 touchdowns, while running back Aaron Rivera has amassed over 1,000 yards on the ground. Gabrielino seeks to share the league title but faces challenges after a disappointing 35-10 loss to Arroyo two weeks ago.

With playoff positions on the line, these matchups promise thrilling action and intense competition as teams vie for league supremacy.

All games are set to kick off at 19:00 (7 p.m.) in various locations across the region, and fans are encouraged to check the schedules as times and venues may change.
