They maintained their advantage until the midway point of the third quarter, when Cal State L.A. regained the lead at 53-46 heading into the final quarter.
Chico State displayed resilience, outscoring L.A. 14-4 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Madison Parry led the Wildcats with an impressive performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Teammates Nseije Ortiz contributed 12 points, while Meadow Aragon added 9 points and 12 rebounds. The Wildcats dominated the boards, out-rebounding L.A. 45-30. The team’s next challenge will be against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In the men’s game, the Wildcats staged a dramatic second-half comeback. After trailing 45-38 at halftime, Jeremiah Dargan made a crucial layup with just nine seconds remaining, sealing a 70-69 victory. Dargan was the standout performer for the night, finishing with 23 points. Chris Holley contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Cortevious Taylor recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
With this victory, the Chico State men’s team improved to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in CCAA competition. They will also face Cal State Dominguez Hills, with the game scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
