The Baltimore Ravens are grappling with significant challenges as they prepare to face the Houston Texans on October 8, 2025. With a disappointing record of 1-3 this season, the team’s aspirations for a Super Bowl have begun to fade. The Ravens enter the matchup as a narrow one-point favorite, with a projected win probability of 69.5%, according to BETMGM’s simulation. However, the absence of star quarterback Lamar Jackson due to a hamstring injury raises concerns for the team’s performance.
Jackson has missed three consecutive practices leading up to the game, making his availability increasingly unlikely. ESPN reporter Jamison Hensley confirmed that Jackson’s absence would mark the first time he has missed a game due to injury since 2023. Additionally, Pro Bowl safety Kyle Hamilton has also been sidelined with a groin injury, compounding the team’s defensive struggles.
Ravens Prepare for Tough Matchup Without Key Players
With Jackson likely out, the Ravens are expected to turn to backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who was seen taking snaps with the first-team offense during Friday’s practice. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken acknowledged the differences in playing style between Rush and Jackson, stating, “Obviously, as athletic as ‘Coop’ is, some of those things are not going to look the same as Lamar. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still be effective and efficient.”
Despite the offensive unit having scored over 30 points in three of their four games this season, the Ravens’ defensive performance has been subpar. They currently rank 31st in both total defense (406.8 yards per game) and passing defense (265.5 yards per game). The run defense has fared slightly better, ranking 27th at 141.3 yards per game. This puts immense pressure on the Ravens’ defense as they prepare to face Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who is currently 10th in the league in passing yards with 832 and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns with four.
The matchup against the Texans, also sitting at 1-3, presents an opportunity for the Ravens to regain some momentum, but the absence of key players could hinder their chances. The Ravens must find a way to bolster their defense and provide adequate support for Rush if they hope to secure a victory and keep their playoff aspirations alive.
As the Ravens look to bounce back in a crucial game, all eyes will be on how they adapt to the loss of their star quarterback and whether their defense can rise to the occasion against a capable Texans offense.
