The Arizona Wildcats football team has bolstered its roster with the commitment of former Georgetown linebacker Cooper Blomstrom. This addition comes as Arizona continues to rebuild its lineup ahead of the upcoming season in the Big 12 Conference. Blomstrom, who stands at an impressive 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 245 pounds, brings significant experience from his time in the Patriot League.
During his three-year stint at Georgetown, Blomstrom played in 31 games and made 19 starts. He accumulated 117 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss and 16 sacks. Additionally, he recorded five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and an interception. His performance earned him recognition as a two-time All-Conference selection, highlighting his skill and impact on the field.
With only one season of eligibility remaining, Blomstrom is expected to transition from a defensive line role at Georgetown to linebacker for Arizona. He may fill a position similar to that of Riley Wilson, who excelled in a dual role between edge rusher and outside linebacker during the 2025 season. His versatility and past performance make him a valuable asset for the Wildcats as they aim to compete effectively in their new conference.
Blomstrom’s previous season was particularly noteworthy, as he earned First Team All-Patriot League honors. In that season, he recorded 47 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, alongside three forced fumbles. His dominance on the field solidified his reputation as one of the top defenders in the FCS.
Arizona’s linebacker corps also includes rising seniors Taye Brown and Chase Kennedy, who have both made significant contributions to the team. Brown has participated in 24 games at linebacker, starting 18 consecutive matches, while Kennedy was a starter for the last seven games of the previous season. The Wildcats also welcome underclassmen Jabari Mann and Myron Robinson, the latter of whom previously started at Cincinnati before suffering an injury.
Blomstrom is the third player Arizona has acquired through the NCAA transfer portal, marking the first defensive addition of this offseason. His commitment reflects the Wildcats’ strategy to enhance their roster with experienced players who have demonstrated success at the collegiate level. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Blomstrom’s experience and skills could play a crucial role in Arizona’s efforts to strengthen its defense and achieve success in the Big 12.
