All Mobile Video (AMV) has upgraded its NYLA production truck by selecting two FOR-A FA-1616 multi-channel processors. This decision is part of a broader 3G upgrade aimed at enhancing the truck’s capabilities for live event productions, which include high-profile music performances and award ceremonies. The FA-1616 processors, noted for their compact 1RU size and feature-rich performance, were deemed the ideal choice by AMV.

Paul Butkiewicz, Director of Engineering at AMV, expressed enthusiasm about the FA-1616’s capabilities. “The FA-1616 checked every box and then some,” he stated. The processor provides 32 inputs and outputs, advanced color correction, and supports multiple audio protocols, all within a single device. Butkiewicz highlighted the processor’s flexibility, stating, “We’re thrilled with the flexibility and firepower this brings to NYLA.”

Enhanced Features for Live Event Production

The upgraded truck is equipped to support a variety of formats and frame rates, essential for the diverse demands of live events. “We need to be able to support any format or frame rate our clients are working with, which for just one show can include several,” Butkiewicz added. The FA-1616 simplifies the production of live events that require multi-platform delivery and live switching, ensuring seamless operation.

NYLA is a UHD/3G/HD truck designed to comply with the SDI transmission standard. AMV was particularly impressed by the user-friendly graphical interface (GUI) of the FA-1616. “We were all amazed by its ease of use,” Butkiewicz remarked. With the processor’s extensive features, the operational simplicity was a significant selling point.

For a company engaged with high-profile live entertainment clients, support for formats such as 24P, HDR, Dante, and MADI was crucial. Additionally, the FA-1616’s compatibility with SMPTE ST-2110 standards prepares AMV for future IP network infrastructure requirements. Butkiewicz noted, “We are 100 percent confident in our ability to offer our clients the ability to work with any IP-based technologies.”

Strategic Partnership and Future Prospects

The introduction of the FA-1616 to AMV was facilitated by Gerry Nazimek, Director of Sales for the Northeast at FOR-A Americas. After a demonstration at the NAB convention, AMV was given a trial period to test the processor’s capabilities. “We loved everything it could do, again in such a small package. I knew this would be the perfect fit for our NYLA truck,” Butkiewicz recalled.

The NYLA production truck’s media network has been upgraded to a robust 10 Gbps network infrastructure, significantly enhancing the truck’s data handling and transmission capabilities. Satoshi Kanemura, President of FOR-A Corporation of America, commented on the partnership, stating, “All Mobile Video has been a premier provider of mobile production for decades now. We couldn’t be happier with their selection of FOR-A’s FA-1616 signal processor as a key part of this important upgrade.”

The FA-1616 processor can be monitored and controlled via a web browser or through the Ember+ protocol, with monitoring capabilities via SNMP networking. With features including a redundant power supply and support for SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022 interfaces, the FA-1616 serves as an effective bridge between SDI and IP technologies. Moreover, the processor’s frame synchronizer supports 4K/12G-SDI, High Dynamic Range, and Wide Color Gamut, allowing for the simultaneous processing of both 4K UHD and HD video, enhancing its utility for live productions.

The strategic choice of the FA-1616 positions All Mobile Video for continued success in the competitive landscape of mobile production, promising to deliver high-quality content for its clients in the months ahead.
