Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved music educator and cherished family member, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach, California. She was 84 years old. Suzanne, who lived in Palos Verdes Estates for many years, leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and joy that touched the lives of many.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne grew up in Evanston, Illinois, where she attended Northwestern University. It was during her time at university that she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr. Their romance began when Paul attended her Debutante Ball, charming her and winning her heart. The couple married and relocated to California after Suzanne graduated, settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they spent over five decades together.

Suzanne was known affectionately by many names, including Sue, Susie, and Grammy. She dedicated her life to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School, where she inspired countless students through elaborate plays and performances that fostered their love of music. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, bringing happiness to children and families alike.

Personal Passions and Legacy

In addition to her teaching, Suzanne enjoyed spending summers with friends at the Portuguese Bend Club, where they gathered for what she called “happy-houring.” During cooler months, she showcased her creativity through intricate needlepoint projects, which she often gifted to loved ones. Her love for music continued with her piano playing, and she took great pleasure in tending to her roses, which thrived under her care.

Known for her warm smile and delightful personality, Suzanne had a profound impact on those around her. Family and friends fondly remember her exceptional lemon meringue pie, a testament to her culinary skills. As a mother, she nurtured her son Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam and daughter Amy Rubincam Steadman, as well as her three granddaughters, Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. Suzanne’s relationship with Paul was a cornerstone of her life; they were often seen dancing together at events, a symbol of their enduring love.

As per Suzanne’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to support research for Alzheimer’s disease. Friends and family are encouraged to visit the Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions website at www.LAfuneral.com to share memories and condolences.
