Dan Ericson, a cherished member of the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by family and friends, his departure marks the end of a life dedicated to service, family, and community.

Early Life and Education

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where his athletic talents shone through in both baseball and basketball, earning him the title of Homecoming King. After completing his education at El Camino College, he was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University.

Dan’s dedication to his country was evident in his service as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he briefly worked in the aerospace industry before discovering his true passion in real estate.

Real Estate Career and Community Impact

Over the decades, Dan established a successful real estate business in the South Bay, where he earned a reputation for his expertise, integrity, and generosity. He was known for mentoring young realtors, teaching them the importance of conducting business with honesty and heart. His commitment to the community extended beyond his professional life, as he actively participated in local events and initiatives.

In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church. Their life together was rooted in love, family, and community spirit. Dan was a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and a loving father-in-law to Katrin. He took great pride in being a grandfather to his four grandchildren, Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Known for his kind and gentle nature, Dan had a playful sense of humor that endeared him to all. He delighted in wordplay and quick turns of phrase, often surprising those around him with his wit and warmth. His love for the ocean was reflected in his hobbies; he enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing throughout his life.

A Lasting Legacy

For more than 40 years, Dan was a parishioner at American Martyrs Church, maintaining a strong connection to the community he loved. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away earlier.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Prior to the service, a paddle out will be held at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, and all are welcome to attend in remembrance of Dan.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals through ocean therapy and related programs.

Dan Ericson leaves behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and love for his family and community, ensuring that his spirit will live on in the hearts of many.
