Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and dedication. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, he exemplified hard work and resilience throughout his life. Art was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared over 73 years of marriage and a deep partnership.

Family and Community Impact

Art and Nellie raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. His family continues to thrive, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his spirit and values. He is also survived by siblings Tito and Choco, while being predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John.

Art’s life in Torrance began in the close-knit community of La Rana, where he formed lifelong friendships. He attended Torrance High School and later established a successful career. Art dedicated 20 years to Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and dedication garnered him respect and numerous accolades.

Passions and Hobbies

Beyond his professional achievements, Art enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought joy to his life. He cherished family camping trips to Glen Ivy, creating cherished memories. An avid bowler, Art competed for over four decades, showcasing his talent at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. In the 1960s, he participated in a men’s softball league at Torrance Park and was known for his skillful pool playing, winning several tournaments.

Art was a self-made man, taking pride in the home he lovingly restored. Each project reflected his craftsmanship and dedication. A voracious reader, he was a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, finding joy in literature, particularly proud that his sons once delivered that very newspaper.

Though Art is no longer with us, his spirit endures through the stories shared by family and friends, the lessons he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. A memorial service will take place on October 27, 2025, at 4 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.

“Though he is no longer with us, he is never truly gone.”
