
Mildred “Mimi” Wilson, known for her significant contributions to the arts and her commitment to community, passed away on August 22, 2025, just days before her 91st birthday. She died peacefully at her home in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Born Mildred Jane Brown in Kearney, Nebraska, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Mimi pursued her passion for music and the arts. She obtained degrees in Music Education and the Arts from both the University of Missouri and the University of Southern California. Her dedication to education and the arts shaped her life and influenced countless others.
Mimi was married to Dr. William Wilson, who served as the Director of Diagnostic Radiology at the Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach. Together, they raised five children—Susan, Chris, Nancy, Bill, and AliceAnn—in Palos Verdes, California. During this time, Mimi’s enthusiasm for theater flourished. She co-founded the New Place Theater Company and directed numerous productions at the Norris Theater. Additionally, she played a vital role in supporting the Palos Verdes Ballet, collaborating closely with esteemed figures like Fay Gillette and Uta Graf-Apostol.
In her later years, Mimi relocated to Ridgewood, New Jersey, where she embarked on a successful second career in real estate. Her commitment to her community remained strong as she stayed active in her church and local initiatives. Mimi also discovered a talent for painting, which became a cherished hobby. She valued family time immensely, often gathering with loved ones at the shore.
Mimi is survived by her five children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her brother, Robert Brown. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Scollay. Her family remembers her as a beacon of creativity, dedicated service, and unwavering love.
Mimi Wilson’s burial took place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, Ohio, on August 30, 2025. Her legacy of artistic achievement and familial devotion will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
