
Carol A. Stent, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her loving husband, David Y. Nakahara, as she departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
Early Life and Education
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of seven siblings, comprising three brothers and three sisters. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation. During her time there, she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who played a significant role in her education.
Driven by a spirit of adventure, Carol relocated to San Francisco, California, with four of her classmates, where they pursued careers and ultimately found partners. Her striking beauty and zest for life quickly captured attention, leading her to Los Angeles, California, where she met Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England.
A Life Filled with Love and Resilience
Carol and Raymond married at the Wayfarers Chapel, and together they navigated the challenges of his medical career, which included a successful residency at U.C.L.A. and subsequent board certification in neurology. After their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found love again with David Nakahara, a lawyer based in Torrance, California. The couple wed in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989.
In 1998, they settled in Las Vegas, where they shared their home with a total of seventeen beloved pets over the years. Carol possessed a profound love for all creatures, embodying a spirit of compassion and care.
Despite facing personal challenges, including a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, Carol remained a steadfast support for David as he cared for his aging parents. Her resilience during these times illuminated the lives of those around her, showcasing her wit, determination, and love.
Carol is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her life story concludes with the heartfelt sentiment: Soli Deo Gloria — “Only To God the Glory.”
