Virginia Lee Thacker Velasco Bishop, affectionately known as Ginny, passed away on October 10, 2025, at the age of 90 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Born in 1934, she was raised in Scottsville, Virginia, by her parents, Raymon and Emma Lou Thacker, both of whom have since passed away. She is survived by an extensive family, including a half-brother, Matthew, residing in Scottsville, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ginny’s early life was marked by her marriage to Nelson S. Velasco, which took her to New York. The couple had four children together before relocating to Virginia in 1972. Their marriage lasted over 25 years, during which Ginny became a respected Planner with Siemens-Bendix, a company later known as Allied-Signal Corp. She eventually retired from this position.

Following her divorce from Nelson and after her children had grown, Ginny embraced a new chapter in her life. She found joy in dancing and socializing, which led her to meet her second husband, Arthur C. Bishop. The couple married and enjoyed 28 years together until Arthur’s passing. They made their home in Yorktown, Virginia.

Ginny’s family includes her children: Doreen (Bob, deceased), Jamie (Becky), David, and Rick (Sari). She is also survived by ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss her presence.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on October 17, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Peninsula Memorial Park. Ginny’s legacy will continue through the love and memories shared by her family.
