Bangor, Maine -- January 13, 2022 -- Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.
Two men have been charged following a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday in Glenburn, Maine. The suspects, identified as George Overlock, 36, from Carmel, and Raphael Cupidon, 22, from Massachusetts, allegedly fired upon a woman’s home and vehicle, leading law enforcement on a pursuit.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Overlock faces multiple charges, including aggravated drug trafficking, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, and refusing to stop for police. He has also been charged with aggravated criminal mischief, criminal speeding, driving to endanger, and resisting arrest. Meanwhile, Cupidon has been charged with aggravated drug trafficking and refusing to submit to arrest.
The shooting took place around 15:10 local time as Overlock, Cupidon, and at least one additional individual, all donned in ski masks, discharged firearms at a residence on Danforth Drive and a vehicle parked outside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the home.
Law enforcement officials located the suspects while they were attempting to flee in a truck on Union Street in Hermon. Overlock, allegedly the driver, led police on a chase through Bangor, eventually reaching Finson Road. At this point, both Cupidon and another individual exited the vehicle and escaped on foot, while Overlock continued to drive back toward Glenburn.
As the situation unfolded, Overlock abandoned the truck and reportedly broke into a home on Lake View Road to evade capture. When deputies arrived and attempted to arrest him, Overlock allegedly resisted. During this incident, the homeowners’ dog, a 9-year-old English mastiff named Rosie, escaped and has not been located since. It is important to note that the homeowners were away at the time of the break-in.
Deputies tracked Cupidon using police dogs, leading to his discovery hiding under a mobile home nearby. In the aftermath, law enforcement executed search warrants in both Bangor and Hampden, resulting in the seizure of approximately half a kilo of drugs and two handguns.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office has stated that investigations are ongoing, and additional individuals involved in the incident remain at large. They emphasized that no further information will be disclosed at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
