The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) will recognize bipartisan leaders from Congress for their commitment to worker safety on November 19, 2025. During its Annual Meeting at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C., ISEA will present the prestigious Legislative Leadership Award to U.S. Representatives Summer Lee (D-PA-12) and Don Bacon (R-NE-2), along with U.S. Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ). This award honors lawmakers who have significantly advanced the cause of worker safety, bolstered U.S. manufacturing, and promoted innovation in personal protective equipment (PPE).

Cam Mackey, President and CEO of ISEA, emphasized the importance of leadership that transcends partisan divides. “These honorees represent a rare kind of leadership—one that cuts through partisanship and focuses squarely on the health and safety of American workers,” he stated. “Their advocacy is not about politics. It’s about making sure every worker—from healthcare to construction—can come home safe at the end of the day.”

Acknowledging Individual Contributions to Worker Safety

Each award recipient has a distinct background and approach to promoting worker safety. Rep. Summer Lee has been a vocal advocate for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) located in her Pittsburgh district. She has consistently raised alarms about potential layoffs and program cuts, reminding her colleagues in Congress that “every worker deserves to come home healthy after a shift.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Don Bacon, a retired Air Force Brigadier General, is known for his collaborative efforts across party lines. He has focused on ensuring that first responders and other frontline workers have access to reliable, certified PPE. Bacon’s commitment to worker safety reflects his understanding of the challenges faced by those who protect and serve.

Senator Andy Kim has made significant strides in advocating for federal funding for key safety agencies. He recently led a coalition urging Congress to maintain financial support for both OSHA and NIOSH. His proactive approach highlights the importance of scientific grounding in the development of innovative PPE solutions.

Promoting Collaborative Solutions for Worker Safety

The ISEA’s Legislative Leadership Award serves not only as recognition but also as a call to action for industry leaders, policymakers, and safety advocates. The upcoming ceremony at the International Spy Museum will underscore the necessity for collaboration between government and industry to tackle the urgent challenges facing worker safety today.

Mackey pointed out the broader implications of PPE, stating, “PPE isn’t just equipment—it’s peace of mind for millions of workers and their families.” He emphasized that the responsibility for protecting lives is a collective one, and these leaders have demonstrated their commitment through tangible actions.
