family-launches-1950s-themed-ice-cream-parlor-in-central

A family-owned establishment, Happy Scoops Ice Cream Parlor, officially opened its doors this month in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Set against a nostalgic backdrop of the 1950s, the parlor features a distinctive checkered floor, a playful penguin mascot, and an array of board games aimed at creating a welcoming atmosphere for families.

Located on Hooper Road, the ice cream parlor is co-owned and managed by Angie Hector, her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Hector expressed her passion for the 1950s theme, stating, “The decor is ’50s black and white checkered floor, pink and mint green walls, and then we’ll have ’50s music playing.” The absence of televisions and public Wi-Fi is a deliberate choice aimed at fostering quality family interactions in an unplugged environment.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of classic games, including checkers, Yahtzee, and Candyland. In an effort to provide a safe and enjoyable space for teenagers, the parlor extends its hours until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Hector noted the importance of such a venue, saying, “There’s not many places for teenagers to go that their mom and dad might feel comfortable with them hanging out on a Friday or Saturday night.”

Guests have the option to sit at the ice cream bar or in cozy two- and four-seater tables. Additionally, a private room is available for birthday parties, providing an ideal setting for celebrations.

Menu Highlights and Grand Opening

The menu at Happy Scoops offers an enticing selection of ice cream options, available in cups, sugar cones, waffle cones, or cake cones. Notably, customers can indulge in milkshakes, malts, banana splits, and floats made with root beer or cola. Hector proudly lists the twelve Bluebell flavors available, which include:

– Homemade vanilla
– Cotton candy
– Strawberry
– Birthday cake
– Dutch chocolate
– Pecan pralines ‘n’ cream
– Cookies ‘n’ cream
– Butter crunch
– Chocolate chip cookie dough
– Mint chocolate chip
– Krazy Kolors
– Orange sherbet

In addition to ice cream, the parlor serves nachos, hot dogs, and sodas, catering to a variety of tastes.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for October 18, 2023, from noon to midnight. The event promises balloons, face painting, and an abundance of ice cream treats. Local pop-up vendors will also be present, offering items such as permanent jewelry, purses, and candied fruit. Families can look forward to seeing the Happy Scoops penguin mascot making an appearance throughout the day.

Happy Scoops Ice Cream Parlor is located at 13623 Hooper Road, Suite A, and operates from noon to 21:00 Thursday to Sunday, with extended hours until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. This new addition to the community aims to provide a joyful and engaging space for families and friends to gather and create lasting memories.
