strikepoint-handbell-ensemble-to-perform-in-bemidji-on-august-4

The Strikepoint handbell ensemble from Duluth will present a concert at 7 p.m. on August 4, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, located at 1555 Paul Bunyan Dr. NW, Bemidji. This performance is part of the ensemble’s summer concert tour across the Midwest, showcasing a diverse range of musical selections under the theme of “variety.”

Concertgoers can anticipate a blend of both familiar and contemporary pieces. Highlights include the beloved hymn “A Mighty Fortress” alongside popular tunes such as “Mister Sandman” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” Additionally, attendees will experience a unique composition created specifically for the ensemble, enhancing the concert’s appeal.

Founded in 1984, Strikepoint has been a prominent presence in the handbell community, embarking on annual tours since 1986. Their international travels have taken them to notable locations including England, Scotland, Japan, Hong Kong, Sweden, and various sites across the mainland United States. The group has performed at prestigious venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and Sterling Castle in Scotland, as well as Disney World in Florida and both Disneyland and the Crystal Cathedral in California.

Locally, Strikepoint has collaborated with esteemed organizations like the Arrowhead Chorale, the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, and the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, they served as cultural exchange ambassadors in Växjö, Duluth’s sister city in Sweden. Last summer, the ensemble represented the United States at the 21st International Handbell Symposium held in Hamamatsu, Japan, marking a significant achievement in their touring history.

The ensemble, which is unique for its blend of community, professional, and church members, operates without a formal director. The new leader of Strikepoint, Derek Bromme, brings fresh energy and vision to the group.

Admission to the concert is free, but a suggested donation of $18 will support local arts initiatives. Notably, 20% of the donations collected during the evening will benefit the music program at First Baptist Church, reinforcing the connection between the ensemble and the local community.

With a rich history and an engaging program, Strikepoint’s performance promises to be a memorable event for music lovers in Bemidji.
