The Springfield Public School concert choir, directed by Bailey Cords, has received a prestigious invitation to perform at the annual convention of the Minnesota Music Education Association on February 13, 2024, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The performance will celebrate the theme “Rise Together in Song—Celebrating Music Education in a Rural Community,” highlighting the choir’s accomplishments and dedication to music education. This marks a significant recognition for the choir, which previously performed at the convention in 1993.
In addition to this notable achievement, several students from the region have been acknowledged for their academic accomplishments at various institutions.
Academic Achievements in Higher Education
At Iowa State University, Brenden Paul Humbard from New Ulm graduated in the fall with a bachelor of science degree in animal science. This accomplishment reflects his hard work and dedication throughout his studies.
Meanwhile, Catherine Cummings from Mankato earned a spot on the fall dean’s list at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. To qualify for this honor, students must achieve a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrating academic excellence.
At Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Saige Isaacson, also from New Ulm, was named to the president’s list of high distinction for the fall term. To be included on this list, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher while enrolled in six or more credits in an associate’s degree or technical diploma program.
Furthermore, Emily Frutos Krueger from Mankato made both the dean’s list and the president’s list at University of Hartford in Connecticut. The dean’s list recognizes students with a GPA of at least 3.0, while the president’s list honors those achieving a GPA of 3.75 or higher, with no grades below C.
These recognitions not only spotlight the talents and efforts of individual students but also reflect the vibrant educational environment within the community. The Springfield Public School concert choir’s upcoming performance is set to inspire further engagement and appreciation for music education.
