Willis Paul Tuttle, aged 85, passed away peacefully at his home on December 30, 2025. He was surrounded by his daughter and son-in-law during his final moments. Tuttle’s life was marked by his dedication to family, community, and a wide array of personal interests that enriched his years.

A Multifaceted Life

Born and raised in Oneida, New York, Tuttle graduated from Oneida High School in the class of 1957. He continued his education at Syracuse University Business School, which laid the groundwork for a successful career in the construction industry. Tuttle’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished in his later years when he and his second wife, Jean, operated Tuttle’s Shady Oak Restaurant & Tavern along the picturesque St. John’s River in Deland, Florida.

Tuttle was known for his passion for reading and enjoyed spending time at local establishments for a cold beer and lively conversation. His youth was filled with activities such as softball games on Creek Road, hunting, fishing, and participating in family gatherings at their camp on Oneida Lake. He cherished these moments, which fostered a deep sense of community and connection.

As he transitioned into his later years, Tuttle continued to embrace life with enthusiasm. He took pleasure in fishing, playing darts, and enjoying pontoon boating on the St. John’s River. He often shared cold beers on the porch with neighbors, including Dolly, Grace, Stacie, Dave, and Shelley. Tuttle delighted in observing the wildlife around his property, which included Sandhill Cranes, deer, black bears, and turkeys. His beloved dog, Dink, who was his faithful companion after he became a widower in 2012, was a constant source of comfort.

A Legacy of Love and Generosity

Willis Paul Tuttle is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Kutis (Mark) and Famie Bean (Torry), his son Kipp Tuttle (Jessica), stepson Johnny Bryant (Cheryl), sister Juliette Flint, and brother-in-law Harold Boneventura. He leaves behind grandchildren Kody (Kendall), Meagan (Ty), Zena (Travis), Courtney (George), and great-grandchildren Ella, Kellin, Octavia, Jasey, and Kobe. His family also includes nephews Dale Boneventura and Todd Fiedler, a special family friend known as Becky Follett, and his close companions from Amvets Post 13.

Tuttle was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents Paul and Lillian, sister Carole, stepson Allen, stepdaughter Tabby, and niece Tammie. In a final act of generosity, he donated his body to science through Science Care, intending to contribute to future medical advancements.

Respecting his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, those who knew him are encouraged to raise a celebratory toast in honor of a life well-lived. Tuttle often humorously remarked, “Golden Years my Ass,” reflecting his spirited approach to life. His legacy is perhaps best summed up by the words from 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Willis Paul Tuttle will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for his warmth and the joy he brought to those around him.
