Doris R. Chambliss, a beloved member of her community, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on September 17, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie Rogers. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Henry Lyons Chambliss, and was the last surviving sibling among John T. Rogers, F. Kenneth Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Eleanor R. Laun, and Marion R. VanHise.
Throughout her life, Doris maintained a deep affection for her family. She often spoke fondly of her brothers and sisters, cherishing the bonds they shared. Doris dedicated over 30 years to the Jefferson County School System, where she served as secretary to several assistant superintendents. Her commitment to education and the educators she worked alongside was unwavering. She retired in 1992.
In 2008, Doris relocated to Suffolk, Virginia, to be closer to her family. For over a decade, she resided in the Commons of Centerbrooke until 2019, when she moved in with her daughter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Doris was an active member of Christ First Church in Suffolk, contributing to her community until her passing.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Judy Diane Chambliss Boswell, granddaughter Jennifer Boswell Rockey, and great-grandchildren William Henry Rockey and Abigail Lee Rockey. She is also survived by several in-laws, including her sister-in-law, Ann Rogers, from Florida; brother-in-law, David Dunn; and Robert and Janet Chambliss from Kentucky, as well as many nieces and nephews across the country.
A grand celebration of Doris’s 100th birthday took place on September 21, 2025, attended by family members from various states and numerous friends. This milestone event honored her life and the impact she had on those around her.
The family plans to hold a private celebration of life in the future, inviting close friends and family to remember Doris’s legacy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society, located at 3118 Kings Hwy, Suffolk, VA 23434, reflecting Doris’s love for her dogs, Leo and Otis, whom she cared for dearly.
