Prince George, aged 12, made his first appearance at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance on November 8, 2025. He attended the event alongside his mother, Princess Kate Middleton, at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The royal duo sat in the royal box with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other family members, marking a significant moment in George’s young life.
Dressing appropriately for the occasion, George wore a smart black suit complemented by a striped tie and a poppy pin on his lapel. His mother, Princess Kate, aged 43, also showcased a poppy pin attached to her elegant black long-sleeved dress, which featured a white Peter Pan collar. The Festival of Remembrance is a poignant event held each November in the United Kingdom to honor military veterans who have served the Commonwealth. Many attendees, including the royal family, wear poppies as a symbol of remembrance.
Traditionally, both Prince William and Princess Kate attend the service together. However, on this occasion, William was absent due to his ongoing commitments in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize Awards. The couple, who married in 2011, have three children: George, Princess Charlotte, aged 10, and Prince Louis, aged 7.
In recent months, the royal family has navigated challenging times. In early 2024, Princess Kate was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. Following a year of treatment, she announced in January 2025 that she is now in remission. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed gratitude to The Royal Marsden for their exceptional care.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” she wrote. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more.”
Kate emphasized the emotional toll of her experience, stating, “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.” She highlighted the importance of support during recovery, particularly for families adjusting to new dynamics after a cancer diagnosis.
Prince William, during a recent episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, shared insights into their family life. He indicated the significance of providing security and openness for their children, especially in light of recent challenges. “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need. We’re a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, and things that trouble us,” he explained.
As the royal family continues to support one another through these personal challenges, Prince George’s participation in the Festival of Remembrance signifies a step toward embracing his royal role. The event not only commemorates the sacrifices made by veterans but also reflects the resilience of the royal family as they face their own trials while honoring the past.
