The Plantation Shoppe in Wayne County, North Carolina, continues to delight customers with a diverse range of holiday gifts and collectibles as it marks over 40 years in business. Since its establishment in November 1983, the family-owned shop has evolved from offering antiques to a focus on gifts, especially during the festive season.
Initially located in the Eastgate Shopping Center, the store has since relocated to its current address at 307 N. Spence Ave. in Cobblestone Place. Co-manager Andy Gray, who works alongside her mother and owner, Joyce Edwards, noted that the holiday season brings a notable increase in customer traffic. “We’re busier at this time of year,” Gray explained.
As the holidays approach, the store showcases a variety of seasonal items. Gray highlighted popular products including Christmas-themed night lights, ornaments, and Fontanini Nativity sets, which are particularly sought after during this time. “We have six new pieces that were just introduced this year,” she added, emphasizing the shop’s commitment to providing fresh, appealing products for customers.
The Plantation Shoppe is also offering discounts on select items. Currently, Byers Choice Christmas Carolers are available at a 40% holiday discount, while Lampe Berger Paris products are marked down by 30%. Additionally, customers can find collegiate-themed ornaments representing local universities such as the University of North Carolina and N.C. State University, among others.
As the shop looks ahead, Gray expressed a desire to continue serving the community even after the holiday rush. “Some items, like the nativity scene sets and Christmas village items, will be available after the holidays,” she said, noting that the Christmas villages will remain on display year-round.
Despite the challenges faced by local gift shops, including the closure of several establishments in the area, Gray remains hopeful. She and Edwards have plans to eventually retire but are encouraged by the loyalty of their customers. “Somebody comes in and says, ‘I love your shop. I was wondering if you all were still open. I’m just so glad you’re still here,’” Gray shared, reflecting on the positive feedback that motivates them.
The Plantation Shoppe stands as a testament to enduring family values and community support, continuing to offer unique gifts and collectibles that resonate with customers during the festive season and beyond.
