Paul A. Wehry, a cherished member of the Ashland community, passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 77. He died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and a deep connection to his roots in the area.

Born on April 7, 1948, in Ashland, Paul was the son of the late Ada F. Lesher and Joseph M. Wehry. He had a lifelong commitment to his community and family, which is evident in the enduring bond he shared with his wife, Joan M. Kerstetter Wehry. The couple celebrated over 55 years of marriage after tying the knot in 1970.

Paul’s dedication extended beyond family; he was a man of many talents and passions. A graduate of Tri Valley High School in 1966, he spent his professional life as a welder at Bear Ridge Machine & Fabrication in Frackville before retiring in October 2009. His work ethic was matched only by his love for farming, where he raised steer and harvested grain throughout his life.

A Life of Passion and Values

Paul held a profound appreciation for nature and the farming lifestyle. He often expressed his philosophy with the saying, “pain is the best teacher.” This outlook resonated with those who knew him, reflecting his resilience and approach to life’s challenges. He found joy in butchering and cooking, sharing his love for food with friends and family.

Paul is survived by his wife, Joan, and their three children: Susan Wehry-Crowell of Leesport, Jill A. Markovich (Eric) of Kulpmont, and Michael P. Wehry (Nicole) of Kansas. He also leaves behind his brother Carl Wehry (Edith), two grandchildren, Luke and Lily Crowell, as well as three beloved cats: Jennie, Angus, and Annie.

A Celebration of Life will be organized at a later date, allowing friends and family to honor Paul’s memory together.
