orrville-declares-annual-day-of-prayer-for-community-unity

A new tradition is taking root in Orrville, as the town officially recognizes an annual day of prayer. This initiative, spearheaded by the Selma Team Outreach Ministry and Prayer, commonly known as S.T.O.M.P., was recently formalized through a proclamation by Mayor Louvenia Lumpkin. The first Saturday in March has been designated as a day for the community to come together in prayer.

The inaugural observance will take place on March 7 at 10 a.m. at the Orrville Community Center, located at 463 Academy St.. Annie Towns, the founder of S.T.O.M.P., emphasized the importance of this event, stating it offers a unique opportunity for individuals of all faiths to unite in prayer for the necessities of the community, families, leaders, and the town’s future.

“Everyone is welcome,” Towns remarked. “I am asking the community to help spread the word and join S.T.O.M.P. for this important community event.”

The establishment of this day of prayer in Orrville follows a similar initiative in the nearby city of Selma. In 2022, Selma declared the first Saturday in October as a City Wide Day of Prayer, also organized by S.T.O.M.P. This connection between the two communities aims to foster a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.

Organizers are actively encouraging residents from both Orrville and Selma to participate in the upcoming gathering. The event is seen as a chance to strengthen community ties and address collective concerns through prayer.

As Orrville embarks on this new tradition, the hope is that it will inspire a commitment to supporting one another and recognizing the power of communal faith.
