Amanda Warsavsky recently delighted her family by revealing the arrival of her third daughter, Olive, born through surrogacy. The heartfelt moment, captured on video, has since gone viral, garnering over two million views on TikTok. Warsavsky, along with her husband, had long envisioned a family with three children, but faced numerous challenges along the way, including ten pregnancy losses.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Warsavsky, 35, explained that after welcoming her second daughter, she and her husband began exploring surrogacy as an option. They had contemplated this route for years, but when their surrogate became pregnant within six months, they were filled with hope. Unfortunately, the pregnancy turned out to be ectopic, meaning the fertilized egg implanted outside the uterus, leading to further heartache.
“I couldn’t tell anyone, not my parents, not my kids, until we had a living, breathing baby,” Warsavsky recalled. After a year of anticipation, she brought Olive home to New York City from a hospital in Syracuse, keeping the news a closely guarded secret from her family.
The surprise reveal took place in a video shared on TikTok on October 22, showing her mother, Nanci, and daughters, seven-year-old Scarlett and four-year-old Violet, completely unaware of the new addition to the family. As the girls burst into the room, shouting, “It’s a baby!” Nanci’s initial smile turned to shock upon seeing Warsavsky holding Olive. The moment was filled with raw emotion, as Nanci eventually broke down in tears, exclaiming, “Wait a second, stop it.”
Warsavsky also filmed the moment her daughters first met their baby sister. “She’s yours!” she told them, explaining to Scarlett and Violet how Olive had been kept safe in another woman’s belly. Warsavsky noted that her elder daughter seemed to grasp the concept, having witnessed her mother’s struggles over the years.
Reflecting on the experience, Warsavsky shared how she and her husband supported each other throughout the surrogacy journey. “Surrogacy teaches you to let go,” she said. “You have to learn to just trust the process.” They chose not to disclose the pregnancy until Olive was safely in their arms, which proved to be a difficult secret to keep.
Olive was born on May 1, just days after Nanci’s birthday on April 28. During a birthday lunch, Warsavsky felt torn between celebrating her mother and waiting for updates from her surrogate, who was in prodromal labor at the time. “I desperately wanted to tell her, ‘Yes, I have so much peace with my two beautiful girls, but there’s a third one coming,’” Warsavsky said, reflecting on the challenge of keeping the secret.
The journey to welcoming Olive took four years and included multiple pregnancy losses and failed embryo transfers. Warsavsky had also been diagnosed with endometriosis, further complicating her efforts to conceive. Despite the emotional toll, she chose to keep her surrogacy plans private, wanting to spare her family additional heartache.
Both Scarlett and Violet have taken on nurturing roles with their new sister, embracing the surprise with enthusiasm. Warsavsky remarked that her daughters proudly share their unique family story at school, telling peers, “We have a new baby sister, but she lived in someone else’s belly!”
While some friends have questioned Warsavsky’s decision to keep the surrogacy process a secret, she describes it as a gift to her family. “I knew she would be happy in that moment,” Warsavsky said of her mother’s reaction. “She completely understood why I didn’t tell her.”
As the family settles into life with baby Olive, Warsavsky expresses gratitude for the support of her husband and the joy of finally completing their family.
