Madeline O. Miller, affectionately known as Madge, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. She was 93 years old and leaves behind a legacy as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Madge’s family and friends will remember her fondly for her unwavering dedication to those she loved and her passion for golf.
Born on October 22, 1932, in Glenburn Township, Pennsylvania, Madge was the second of two children born to John and Mary Ondrick. She graduated from Clark Summit High School in 1950 and later built a life around her family and career. Madge worked for the Abington Heights School District and subsequently at The Globe Store, contributing to her community through her roles.
A significant part of Madge’s life was her love for golf. During the 1970s, she enjoyed many summers playing at the Scranton Canoe Club, where she secured several club titles. Her involvement in the BGA golf league further showcased her dedication to the sport. Even after relocating to Orwigsburg in 1993, she continued to work at Blue Mountain Cable until her retirement, all while remaining active in her grandchildren’s lives and maintaining her passion for golf.
Madge’s love for the game persisted well into her 80s, with her humorous remark about “spending her children’s inheritance” on golf reflecting her commitment to the sport. She briefly worked in a cigar factory in Scranton before marrying her husband, the late Anthony (Tony) Miller, in 1954. Together, they raised three children: Michele Mather of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; Cindy Heckrote, wife of Rick, from Schuylkill Haven; and Richard Miller, husband to Cheryl of Pen Argyl.
In addition to her children, Madge is survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Mather, who is married to Miriam and lives in Chesapeake, Virginia; Brynn Heckrote of Brooklyn, New York; Kelcey Heckrote Petty, wife of Dan, from Leesport; and Jessica Miller of Pen Argyl. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren and her favorite niece, Patty Miller Bowers.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Grabowski Funeral Home in Schuylkill Haven is entrusted with the arrangements. Friends and family are invited to share memories and condolences online at www.grabowskifuneralhomes.com.
Madeline O. Miller’s vibrant spirit and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
