The Jamestown Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $10,000 to the James River Senior Center to support the construction of a new addition and remodeling of its recently purchased facility in northeast Jamestown. This funding is a significant step in enhancing the center’s capacity to serve the senior community with expanded services and improved safety features.
Improving Services and Safety for Seniors
The grant will facilitate the implementation of new services tailored for seniors, allowing the center to better address their needs. The upgraded facility will include ADA accessibility, ensuring that all clients can navigate the space safely. Furthermore, the new building will feature a large, paved parking lot directly outside its entrance, eliminating accessibility concerns often associated with older facilities.
In addition to these enhancements, the center plans to eliminate carpets throughout the building, promoting better hygiene and safety for its clients. The redesign will also create separate areas for other agencies providing essential services, such as legal aid and foot care, further enriching the offerings available to seniors.
Community Support and Fundraising Initiatives
The James River Senior Center is actively conducting a major fundraising campaign to realize these ambitious goals. Community contributions play a crucial role in the center’s ability to meet its objectives. Donations can be mailed to the senior center at P.O. Box 1092, Jamestown, ND 58402 or can be dropped off at the current location at the Legacy Center, which is the former Jamestown Hospital.
