James G. Lipa, a respected craftsman and United States Army veteran, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 84 in Summerfield, Florida. Born on March 12, 1941, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Lipa’s life was marked by dedication to family, craftsmanship, and service.
Lipa attended Wayne State University in Michigan before enlisting in the Army, where he served his country with honor. After his military service, he established a successful remodeling business in Sarasota, Florida, which he operated for 15 years. In 2004, he retired to the Summerfield area, where he continued to be a prominent figure in his community.
He is survived by his husband, Philip Meglio; his son, Christopher Lipa, and Christopher’s partner, Stacy Tomeo; as well as his brother, John Lipa, and sister-in-law, Stephanie Lipa. His sister, Judith Hayes, along with several nieces and nephews, also mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jerome Lipa.
Funeral Arrangements and Legacy
A funeral Mass is scheduled for January 27, 2026, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, located at 11528 US-301, Belleview, Florida, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the Mass, Lipa will receive interment with full military honors at the Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida, at 14:00 on the same day.
Lipa will be remembered for his quiet strength and the love he shared with those around him. His craftsmanship touched the lives of many, reflecting his commitment to quality and detail. Family and friends will cherish his memory, recalling the warmth he brought to their lives.
