High school students across the United States are gearing up to compete for a substantial prize in the inaugural **Presidential 1776 Award**, which offers a total of **$250,000** in scholarships. Designed to stimulate interest in U.S. history and civics, this competition features a challenging format that tests students’ knowledge through a rigorous series of questions.
The competition comprises three stages: an online test, in-person regional semi-finals, and a national finals event to be held in **Washington, D.C.** in June. Participants in grades 9 through 12 will face what is being dubbed “the impossible test,” consisting of **4,000 questions** to be answered in just **90 minutes**.
As per **McMahon**, who discussed the initiative with **Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow**, the program aims to celebrate the **250th anniversary** of the United States by promoting civic education. “The president is very excited about our 250th anniversary,” McMahon stated. “One of the initiatives is the Presidential 1776 Award, being conducted all across the country.”
Registration for the competition is currently open and will close on **February 21, 2024**. Students are encouraged to sign up and prepare for the online test that will determine who advances to the next phases. The prize structure is particularly enticing, with the top three scorers receiving significant scholarships of **$150,000** for first place, **$75,000** for second, and **$25,000** for third.
“Hopefully we’ll create a lot of interest in civics and the history of the country during this process,” McMahon expressed, highlighting the importance of engaging young people in understanding their national heritage.
The Presidential 1776 Award is part of a broader initiative to promote civic engagement among youth. By incentivizing knowledge of U.S. history through competitive scholarship opportunities, the program aims to inspire the next generation of informed citizens.
As students prepare for this unique challenge, the competition promises to offer an exciting platform for showcasing their knowledge while contributing to a deeper understanding of American history.
