Ford has launched a special edition of the 2025 Bronco, celebrating the legacy of racing pioneer Bill Stroppe. This unique model not only pays homage to Stroppe’s contributions to off-road racing but also reinforces the Bronco’s enduring popularity in the automotive market. The new version features a distinctive color scheme inspired by Stroppe’s original race vehicles, incorporating vibrant shades of red, white, and dark metallic blue.
According to noted Bronco historian and author Todd Zuercher, Stroppe’s involvement in motorsports began shortly after the Bronco was introduced in the 1966 model year. He quickly became synonymous with the vehicle’s success in events like the Baja 500 and Baja 1000. “He got involved immediately with Ford, and the victories started very quickly with him and his team,” Zuercher stated. Stroppe’s less flamboyant approach compared to other racing icons, such as Carroll Shelby, did not diminish his impact on the sport.
The 2025 Stroppe Edition marks a revival of a past tribute, as Ford previously offered a Baja Bronco from 1971 to 1975. Customers could order this model from Ford, which would then modify it at Stroppe and Associates in Long Beach. Today, restored versions of these vintage Baja Broncos command prices well into six figures, illustrating the lasting appeal of Stroppe’s work.
This new special edition Bronco combines a rich heritage with modern capabilities. While it maintains a rugged aesthetic suitable for off-road adventures, it also offers comfort for everyday driving. The model’s starting price is $77,530, which reflects its premium features and limited options. Ford’s strategy aligns with broader industry trends, as automakers increasingly highlight their vehicles’ historical significance, particularly in the four-wheel-drive segment.
For example, when Toyota reintroduced the Land Cruiser last year, it named the base model “1958” and incorporated design elements reminiscent of its early models. Similarly, Jeep regularly draws from its history with limited editions like the 2025 Wrangler Willys ’41, which pays tribute to World War II-era Jeeps.
The special edition Bronco stands out in a crowded SUV market, where differentiation can be challenging. Its tri-colored design and historical significance ensure that it will not go unnoticed on the road. As the SUV segment continues to grow, Ford’s commitment to honoring its heritage through models like the Stroppe Edition reinforces its brand identity and connection with automotive enthusiasts.
