Dearborn, Michigan, marked a significant transition in governance on Saturday as Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud took the oath of office for his second term. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, featuring newly elected officials, including City Clerk George Darany and a refreshed City Council.
During the event, which was streamed on the City of Dearborn’s official YouTube channel, Judge Mariam Saad Bazzi from the First District Court of Appeals administered the oaths. Mayor Hammoud’s re-election followed a strong performance in the November elections, where he emphasized the accomplishments of his first term, describing it as “the most transformative” in Dearborn’s recent history.
Investments and Initiatives for the Future
Mayor Hammoud highlighted his administration’s commitment to significant investments in the city’s infrastructure, announcing over $100 million directed toward various projects. A particular focus was placed on flood preparedness, with a dedicated $25 million earmarked to address this pressing issue for the community.
The inauguration also welcomed new members to the City Council, including Kamal Alsawafy, who will serve as Council Pro Tem, and first-term Councilman Devon O’Reilly. This influx of new talent, combined with experienced lawmakers, aims to invigorate the governance of Dearborn.

During his remarks, Sareini stated, “Fiscal responsibility is not optional — it is an obligation to our residents and to the future of this city.”
The inauguration ceremony also featured spiritual invocations from Bishop Brock Dunlap and Imam Sayed Saleh Qazwini, emphasizing the community’s unity. The national anthem was performed by Vanessa El-Zein, further enhancing the sense of shared identity and patriotism among attendees.
