The Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove held its fourth annual Day for Kids Car Show on September 23, 2023, which coincided with the grand opening of its new Hearts Renewed Counseling Center. This event drew a significant crowd, despite other activities occurring in the area, such as the Heritage Festival and a community block party.

Unit Director Khrystal Westeen expressed gratitude for the support from families, public figures, and city representatives who attended the car show. “That’s what I’m so thankful for,” Westeen stated. “Even with all the other events happening in Copperas Cove today, the city still came out to support us. I’m thankful for the people that did come out and hung out with us for the time they had.” Notable attendees included City Council members Vonya Hart and Dale Treadway, as well as Kevin Keller, the Copperas Cove Public Information Officer, and former school board member Inez Faison, who is recognized as one of the club’s largest donors.

The car show served as a key attraction for many adults, with a variety of vehicles lining the main building. Nevertheless, the event emphasized its purpose as a “Day for Kids,” providing numerous activities tailored for younger attendees. Children enjoyed a soapy foam party organized by Magic Display, alongside a petting zoo and a bounce house for outdoor fun. Inside, families participated in raffles, crafts, face painting, and a Lego building table, all while celebrating the opening of the Hearts Renewed Counseling Center, located in a second building on the premises.

This annual car show is among the organization’s largest fundraising efforts, aimed explicitly at benefiting local children. “Everything we do, all the money we raise, goes back to the kids,” Westeen emphasized. “It’s to help encourage people to come out and spend time with their families.”

The combination of community support and family-focused activities made the fourth annual Day for Kids a memorable occasion, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to serving the youth of Copperas Cove.
