
Kathleen A. Hepner, aged 76, passed away on July 31, 2025, at the Schuylkill Center in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Born on August 19, 1948, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Wanda (Pawlavloskie) Tray. Her death has left a profound impact on her family and community, as she was known for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her loved ones.
Kathleen was a devoted member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon. She cherished time spent with family and friends, often enjoying activities such as shopping, visiting yard sales, and frequenting the casino. Her passion for collecting jewelry and antiques added a unique flair to her character, making her a beloved figure among those who knew her.
Throughout her life, Kathleen faced the loss of several family members, including her grandson, Brian Hepner; her brother, Joseph Tray; and her sisters: Rose Brown, Beth Ann Souchek, Martha Cash, Gladys Lisnock, and Janet Conville. Despite these hardships, she remained a pillar of strength for her family.
Legacy and Family
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard J. Hepner, who resides in Port Carbon. She is also mourned by her two sons, Michael Hepner and his companion Cindy Mummey of Schuylkill Haven, and David Hepner and his wife Tricia of Drexel Hill. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Devan Joy, Lynsey Deiter, and Michael Hepner Jr., as well as her great-grandchildren: Dylan, Eyan, and Asher. Kathleen is also survived by her sister, Wanda Svrchek, her brother, James Tray, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family has chosen to hold private funeral services, allowing them to honor Kathleen’s memory in their own way. The arrangements are being managed by the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon, which is providing support during this difficult time.
Kathleen A. Hepner’s passing is not just a loss for her family but also for the wider community that knew her warmth and kindness. Her joyful spirit and love for life will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
