Harriette Splawn Blanton, a cherished member of her community, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Known for her deep faith and unwavering kindness, Harriette touched the lives of many as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on December 18, 1944, in Columbus, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Preston and Mary Lou Splawn.

Her legacy is one of love and devotion, as she dedicated her life to both her family and the field of education. Harriette served in public education for nearly 30 years, teaching at several elementary schools including Mills River, Stearns, Polk Central, and Mill Spring. She earned her undergraduate degree in education from Western Carolina University and later obtained a master’s degree in education from Converse University.

A Life Committed to Faith and Family

Harriette was a member of Columbus Baptist Church for many years and later attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, influencing not only her family but also the countless students she taught. Harriette was actively involved in programs such as Girls in Action and Mission Friends, and she spent many years teaching Sunday School, where she shared her passion for learning and faith with generations of children.

Family held a special place in Harriette’s heart. She shared a remarkable 57-year marriage with her husband, Clint Blanton. Their bond was characterized by commitment, devotion, and a shared faith that will serve as a cornerstone for their family’s legacy. Harriette is survived by her siblings: Margaret Bennett of White Oak, North Carolina; Virginia Green of Tampa, Florida; and Walt Splawn (Karen Splawn) of Rutherfordton, North Carolina.

She leaves behind two daughters, Joy Robbins (Arthur Robbins) of Columbus and Julie Wilson (Brian Wilson) of Mill Spring, along with five grandchildren: Savannah Robbins Dill (Kaleb Dill), Julianna Robbins, Courtney Wilson, Austin Wilson, and Lauren Wilson. Her gentle spirit and nurturing heart were felt by everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Final Farewell and Community Gatherings

Visitation for Harriette will take place on January 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbus. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Brian Wilson and Dr. Chris Osborn. The family has invited all who knew Harriette to attend and celebrate her life.

Her commitment to education, family, and her faith serves as a lasting inspiration to those she leaves behind. As the family reflects on her impact, they hold close the words from 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Harriette Splawn Blanton’s life was a testament to love, faith, and quiet strength, and she will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
