Christopher G. Marchand, a respected builder and cherished family man, passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 71. He died peacefully at home in Halfmoon, New York, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Known for his dedication to family and community, Marchand leaves behind a legacy that has touched many lives.

Marchand was born on September 2, 1954, and spent his entire life in the Waterford Halfmoon area. His deep connections to the community were evident throughout his life, as he never lived more than a mile away from his childhood home. An alumnus of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waterford and Catholic Central High School in Lansingburgh, he was instilled with strong values that would guide him throughout his career and personal life.

As a young man, Marchand began working in the construction industry at just 12 years old, initially hanging drywall. By the age of 16, he was already driving a boom truck, showcasing his early dedication to the trades. He worked tirelessly, often balancing jobs at an oil refinery while pursuing his passion for building. Marchand founded CGM Construction, a company that became synonymous with quality craftsmanship and community service. He built homes for families, always maintaining that each project deserved the same care as if it were his own family living there.

His commitment to excellence earned him respect among customers, subcontractors, and employees alike. Marchand’s reputation as a visionary was well-deserved; he had a unique ability to envision improvements on job sites that left others inspired. His guidance and advice were highly valued, and his impact will be felt deeply within the community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Marchand had a passion for speed and performance. He enjoyed classic cars and snowmobiling, relishing the thrill that these activities provided. With his family’s encouragement, he began spending winters in Florida, where he formed a close-knit community of friends. At the pool, he had a designated seat that reflected his cherished place among them, often sharing stories over cocktails.

Family was at the heart of Marchand’s life. He was devoted to his wife, Victoria (Catallo), with whom he shared a loving 47-year marriage. He took immense joy in his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren, engaging them in activities like tractor rides and ATV tours of his property. His dedication to family and community was evident, as he continually sought to share his success and happiness with those he loved.
