David N. Daniels, a respected figure in the world of sports and education, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on January 4, 2026. A long-time resident of Enfield, he was the beloved husband of Jeanne Daniels for 44 years. His contributions to the community and the field of athletics have left a lasting impact.

Born on February 19, 1939, in Middletown, Connecticut, David was the son of the late Norman and Okla (Climie) Daniels. He completed his high school education at Woodrow Wilson High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Connecticut, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He later obtained a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

David’s professional career spanned 35 years, during which he served as a baseball coach and Athletic Director for the University of Connecticut Hartford Division. He retired in 1998, but his passion for sports and mentorship continued long after. David dedicated more than 20 years to volunteering with the former Enfield Fish & Wildlife organization, demonstrating his love for the outdoors. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and participating in various sports.

In addition to his volunteer work, David was actively involved in local sports as an umpire for adult men’s and women’s softball leagues, and he served as a baseball referee. He was also a member of the Catch Hollow Hunting and Fishing Club, where he shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors with fellow enthusiasts.

David is survived by his wife, Jeanne, and his children: Tracey Stankiewicz and her husband Tom, Scott Daniels and his wife Catherine, Tammy Arthurs and her husband John, Heather Rounbehler, Stephen Clapp and his wife Rebecca, and Tracey Bonanni and her husband Craig. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Diane Mahoney and her husband John.

The community is invited to celebrate David’s life at a memorial service on January 8, 2026. Relatives and friends can join the family from 16:30 to 19:00 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, located at 61 South Road, Enfield. A brief service will follow at 19:00.
