Central United Methodist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, is preparing to host its second annual “Night to Shine” event on February 13, 2026. This celebration, in partnership with the Tim Tebow Foundation, is designed to honor and value individuals with special needs across East Mississippi and West Alabama. The event will provide a unique evening of joy, connection, and recognition for participants aged 14 and older.
“Night to Shine” is a global initiative aimed at showcasing God’s love by providing a free, memorable prom experience for people with disabilities. The event invites guests to partake in a variety of activities, including hair and makeup stations, shoeshines, and the presentation of corsages and boutonnieres. The highlight of the evening is a glamorous Red Carpet Entrance, featuring cheering crowds and photographers capturing the moment.
In addition to the festivities, the program will include karaoke, gifts, a catered dinner, and dedicated sensory and respite rooms for guests and their caregivers. The night culminates in a crowning ceremony, where every participant is recognized as a king or queen, embodying the belief that each individual is valued and loved.
Event Coordinator Sabrina Williams expressed excitement about the upcoming event, reflecting on the success of the inaugural gathering in 2025. She noted how the overwhelming enthusiasm of the guests created a sense of joy for everyone involved. “The smiles on their faces gave every parent and caregiver, every volunteer, a sense of joy and gratitude for this special night,” Williams stated.
The inaugural event in 2025 left a lasting impression on attendees, with one guest proclaiming, “This was the best night of my life!” Such sentiments highlight the significant impact that “Night to Shine” has on participants and their families.
More than 100 volunteers from various churches and organizations are expected to contribute their time and energy to this year’s event. Those interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or making donations can reach out to Central United Methodist Church at 601-693-1521 or visit the Night to Shine-Meridian Facebook page for additional information.
Former volunteers have emphasized the rewarding experience of participating in the event, with one noting, “If you think you are blessing our guests by volunteering, guess what? You are the one who will be blessed! Come join the fun! There is a spot just for you!”
