Amber Jean Rowan, founder of the bespoke wig company Amber Jean, is set to host a pop-up event at the SoHo House in Austin, Texas, from October 28 to November 2, 2023. This initiative aims to support women experiencing hair loss, providing them with tailored solutions and a unique opportunity to engage with the brand.

This event marks Amber Jean’s first foray into the United States, following successful pop-ups in cities such as Dublin, Edinburgh, and Copenhagen. In addition to the pop-up, Rowan will introduce a new wig rental service next month. This service will allow clients to try out various styles for durations of three days, six days, two weeks, or four weeks, making it easier for individuals to find their ideal wig before committing to a purchase.

Rowan, who established Amber Jean in 2021, was inspired by her own journey with alopecia, a condition she has battled since the age of 15. Her personal experiences with hair loss led her to understand the challenges faced by others in similar situations. “The idea of having to wear a wig was literally the most triggering and challenging thing you can even imagine,” she shared, reflecting on her early struggles to find quality solutions.

Throughout her journey, Rowan explored various treatments, visiting specialists from acupuncturists to oxygen therapy experts. Despite her extensive search, she found few satisfactory options, often resorting to wigs that appeared artificial or were uncomfortable. “But it was better than embracing my hair freeness, so I put that bad wig on and didn’t take it off for around 10 years,” she recalled.

Recognizing the need for better options, Rowan launched a blog titled “Hair Free Life,” where she shared advice and insights about the emotional and physical challenges of hair loss. This initiative eventually evolved into Amber Jean, a brand dedicated to providing high-quality wigs and empathetic consultations in aesthetically pleasing environments.

At the Austin pop-up, customers can book consultations to try on various wigs, allowing them to discover styles that suit their individual needs. Once a suitable option is selected, Amber Jean will create a custom wig tailored to the client’s specific fit, cut, and color, with delivery expected within six weeks. Additionally, Rowan emphasized the importance of making the wig selection process straightforward, stating, “When you enter this wig world and it’s so new to you, it’s so overwhelming… If I can clear out some of the bulls–t and actually make it simple for them, that’s super important for me.”

Looking ahead, Rowan has plans for further expansion, with additional pop-ups scheduled in Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, Barcelona, and Sweden over the next year. Furthermore, she intends to open a permanent location in her hometown of Dublin by summer 2026.
