Sutter Health has finalized the acquisition of a parcel of land in Folsom, California, for approximately $21.7 million. This site will host the anticipated outpatient Folsom Care Complex, a significant step forward for the project, which is expected to cost around $145 million. The new facility is set to include an advanced cancer center, a same-day surgery unit, and expanded urgent care services. Construction activities are already underway, with the campus projected to begin serving patients in fall 2027.

Details of the Acquisition

The land transaction was officially recorded in late January when city documents indicated that Sutter Health is now the owner of the property located at 1565 Cavitt Drive. The site is part of the Broadstone Crossing Phase II development, designated for office and medical uses. As per the Sacramento Business Journal, the previous owner sold the land for approximately $21.742 million. Real estate listings and tax records corroborate this transaction and provide details about the land’s specifications.

Sutter Health describes the Folsom Care Complex as a three-story, 106,500-square-foot outpatient campus. It will feature a full-service Advanced Cancer Center, which includes infusion and radiation therapy facilities, in addition to a same-day outpatient surgery center and enhanced primary and urgent care services. The health system aims to attract more specialists to the Highway 50 corridor, improving local healthcare access.

Impact on the Community

The development is not just a significant investment in healthcare but also comes with commitments to enhance local infrastructure. Developer Elliott Homes has pledged to fund various roadway and pedestrian improvements associated with the project. This includes an upfront deposit intended to expedite the design of a pedestrian bridge on East Bidwell. These enhancements are crucial for managing the expected increase in traffic as the medical campus becomes operational.

Construction updates indicate that work on the site is progressing steadily. Recent permit filings confirm that Sutter Health now holds the title to the land. Contractors are advancing steel and site work, with foundations and early framing already in place. As construction moves into the shell stage in the coming months, preparations for medical tenant build-outs will begin.

Once completed, the Folsom Care Complex is expected to provide numerous on-site services and specialists, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel to Sacramento or Roseville for care. Local residents and commuters are likely to closely monitor construction-related traffic and roadwork near East Bidwell as Sutter Health aims for a patient opening in fall 2027.

The establishment of this care campus marks a pivotal development in Folsom’s healthcare landscape, promising to enhance service delivery and accessibility for the surrounding community.
