The SGMC Health Foundation has funded a new 2025 Starcraft Bus to enhance transportation options for residents of the SGMC Health Villa, a skilled nursing facility located in Lakeland. This initiative aims to improve mobility and accessibility for residents, facilitating their participation in various activities, according to a recent press release from the health care organization.
With seating for 12 passengers and two designated wheelchair positions, the new bus accommodates all residents, including those with mobility challenges. This vehicle will enable residents to enjoy outings, attend local events, and visit medical appointments with greater ease. The addition of the bus is expected to foster frequent and enriching experiences outside the facility, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
Hilary Gibbs, vice president of support services and chief development officer at SGMC Health, emphasized the importance of reliable transportation. “Reliable transportation is essential to maintaining the dignity, independence, and well-being of our residents,” she stated. “This bus represents our commitment to improving the lives of those we serve and supporting the caregivers who make it all possible. And let’s be honest — everyone enjoys a new ride, no matter their age!”
Expanding Services and Support
In addition to serving the residents of SGMC Health Villa, the new bus will assist the organization’s Non-Emergency Transport team during peak periods and will support SGMC Health Lanier transports as required. This multifaceted approach ensures that the transportation needs of both residents and the broader community are met effectively.
SGMC Health Villa is a 62-bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing compassionate care in a warm, home-like environment. The facility offers a range of services, including short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, and hospice support, all delivered by a certified team focused on high-quality, individualized care.
