Family members remember him not only for his artistic pursuits but also for his love of woodworking, traveling, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Community Involvement and Family Life

Upon relocating to North Carolina, Jim became an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, where he served as an usher and participated on the grounds committee. His commitment to community service was evident in all aspects of his life.

Jim’s travels took him to various destinations, including Turkey, Europe, Hawaii, the American Southwest, Alaska, and South and Central America. These experiences enriched his life and provided inspiration for his artistic endeavors.

He is survived by his wife, Leora Schermerhorn, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, alongside their two sons, Charlie (Carol) and Andy (Tatiana).
