The Loyalsock Township School District (LTSD) has canceled an upcoming school board meeting, stating that the decision was unrelated to a recent social media post by a local mother. The cancellation follows a call from the mother for community members to attend the meeting in support of ninth-grade social studies teacher Marcus Williams, who has been accused of inappropriate conduct.
The board meeting, originally scheduled for July 10, 2023, at 18:00, was canceled because at least five out of nine board members would be unavailable, preventing the meeting from achieving the necessary quorum to conduct official business. Hal Gee, the School Board President, emphasized that the board does not comment on personnel matters, which includes the reasons for the accusations against Williams.
On July 8, the mother took to Facebook, alleging that LTSD had falsely accused Williams of having an inappropriate relationship with her daughter. In her lengthy post, she encouraged community members to attend the board meeting to advocate for the teacher. Following her post, a notification appeared on the district’s website announcing the cancellation of the meeting.
The special board meeting scheduled for July 10 at 19:30 was also called off. The agenda for this meeting listed a single item: an LTEA Employee Resolution concerning Employee #2757-2025.
In response to inquiries about the cancellation and its possible link to the Facebook post, both Gerald McLaughlin, the Superintendent, and Christopher Kenyon, the Solicitor, maintained that the meeting’s cancellation had “nothing to do with the social media post.” Kenyon noted, “Unfortunately, the District had to cancel the meeting due to a lack of quorum of its members to conduct the meeting as required.”
No formal charges have been filed against Williams, who joined the LTSD faculty in 2023. His name has since been removed from the district’s staff directory, contributing to the community’s concern and speculation regarding the situation.
The school district has refrained from commenting on the alleged investigation, citing confidentiality regarding personnel matters. As the community awaits further developments, the situation remains a point of contention within the Loyalsock area, highlighting the complexities of personnel issues in educational settings.
