kaweah-health-enhances-visitor-policy-to-support-patients

Kaweah Health has announced significant updates to its visitor policy, allowing overnight stays for patients’ visitors. This change aims to enhance patient comfort and support during their hospital stays. The hospital also plans to expand visitor capacity within its emergency department and treatment rooms.

Marc Mertz, Chief Strategy Officer at Kaweah Health, emphasized the importance of having a support system during hospital visits. “We understand that being in the hospital can be stressful for patients, and having their support system at their bedside helps them feel more comfortable and supported during their care,” he stated.

Under the new guidelines, overnight visitors must be at least 18 years old and must obtain an overnight visitor badge before the hospital’s main entrance closes at 21:00. Reentry will not be allowed after this time. The updated policy also permits children to visit patients, although those under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Expanded Visitor Capacity and Guidelines

Kaweah Health’s visitor policy includes provisions for the emergency department, where up to four visitors can now wait in the designated area. In treatment rooms, two visitors are allowed to accompany patients, while only one visitor can stay with a patient if hallway beds or chairs are utilized. The number of visitors permitted may vary depending on the volume of patients in the emergency department.

Mertz noted that these new guidelines were developed with the well-being of both patients and staff in mind. “We recognize that working with family members can enhance the care and support our patients receive when they return home,” he explained. Mertz also highlighted instances where having a family member at the bedside can be beneficial to healthcare providers, aiding in the overall care process.

The changes at Kaweah Health reflect a growing understanding of the role family plays in patient recovery and comfort. By allowing overnight visitors and adjusting visitor limits, the hospital aims to foster an environment that prioritizes patient support during challenging times.
