A Plymouth-based medical benefits organization, Fulcrum Health, is set to launch a mobile clinic aimed at addressing opioid usage through non-pharmacological treatments. This initiative will serve underserved communities in Anoka, Hennepin, and Ramsey counties, with the goal of reducing dependence on opioid medications. The mobile clinic is scheduled to begin operations in October 2023, supported by a grant of $318,000 from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Providing Alternative Treatments

The Fulcrum Health mobile clinic will focus on providing treatments such as acupuncture, massage, and physical therapy to individuals suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain. This approach aligns with the organization’s mission to raise awareness about alternatives to pain medication. Fulcrum Health’s CEO, Patricia Dennis, emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly in light of upcoming changes to healthcare benefits in Minnesota.

As of January 1, 2026, Minnesota plans to eliminate chiropractic benefits for Medicaid members over the age of 21, which will affect more than 1 million residents. Dennis noted, “Physical medicine treats the root cause of pain, not just the symptoms. While pain medication is sometimes necessary, it can also mask the pain.”

Continuity of Care

The mobile clinic aims to ensure continuity of care for patients. Appointments can be scheduled online, allowing individuals to view their insurance and benefits options. Should a patient require long-term care, the clinic’s providers will assist in connecting them with a network provider in their area.

“The care doesn’t end when the mobile clinic rolls away,” Dennis stated. “Patients will have a clear path to continue their treatment and to stay on track.” This commitment to personalized care reflects Fulcrum Health’s dedication to fostering healing through hands-on techniques and movement therapy.

This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the opioid crisis by exploring alternative treatment options and supporting community health initiatives in Minnesota.
