A Life Rich in Family and Faith
Terri was born on January 27, 1942, to Reinder and Louise (DeBoer) Boverhuis at their home near Platte, South Dakota. At the age of two, her family moved to Hollandale, Minnesota, where Terri became a lifelong member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church, having been baptized and confirmed there. She received her education at the Hollandale Christian School.
In 1965, Terri married Lyle T. Weeks in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple welcomed their daughter, Kim Renae, in 1967. Following her divorce, Terri relocated with Kim to Rock Valley, Iowa, and later to Pella, Iowa, to ensure that Kim received the support she needed for her special needs. During this time, Terri worked as a house parent for local schools, demonstrating her commitment to nurturing young lives.
Eventually, they settled in Austin, Minnesota, where Terri managed an apartment complex for several years. Ultimately, the pair returned to Hollandale to be closer to family.
A Legacy of Care and Community Service
Terri was passionate about gardening and enjoyed spending time outdoors, often engaging in fishing and playing cards. She was also a dedicated pen pal for prison ministries, providing encouragement and correcting study guides for those seeking to grow in their faith. Her compassion extended to anyone facing difficulties, as she was known as a prayer warrior for those in need.
Her daughter, Kim, was the center of Terri’s world. Terri advocated fiercely for Kim, ensuring she had the best education, healthcare, and support. As Terri’s health declined, she expressed gratitude for the community’s support, appreciating the visits, prayers, and encouragement she received during her illness.
Terri’s family includes her daughter Kim Renae; sisters Grace (Dean) Bos and Marlene Passow; brother Harold Boverhuis; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also leaves behind close friends Mark and Deanna, who were like family to her.
Terri was preceded in death by her parents, Reinder and Louise; sister Jennie Eekhoff; and brothers Bernard, Howard, and Ralph Boverhuis. The family acknowledges the care provided by the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Home and the hospice team, thanking them for their kindness and support during Terri’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, Terri requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Hollandale Christian School, reflecting her lifelong commitment to education and community service. Her family cherishes her memory and the impact she made on those around her.
