Carole L. Rish, a cherished educator and community figure, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania. She was 86 years old and had been under the compassionate care of Allied Services Hospice Center after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on August 23, 1939, Carole was the daughter of the late Anna (Brindle) Ziegler and Pastor Phillip Ziegler. Growing up in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, she developed a passion for education and the arts, eventually attending East Stroudsburg University where she earned a degree in teaching. During her university years, Carole also showcased her exceptional gymnastics skills as a member of the university’s traveling gymnastics team.
Her enthusiasm for physical education led Carole to a fulfilling career as an elementary physical education teacher, primarily in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District. She was known for her engaging teaching style, which included line dancing and square dancing, often set to a diverse range of music, with Neil Diamond being one of her favorites. Carole’s positive influence reached many students, including one of her nurses, who recalled how her impact resonated throughout their lives even on Carole’s last day.
Carole is preceded in death by several family members, including her parents, an infant sister, her son David W. Moyer, and her ex-spouse, Delbert (Dutch) Moyer. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Moyer and Kimberly (Moyer) Czapracki, along with their respective families. This includes her brother Jack Ziegler, brother David Ziegler, multiple grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Carole was known for her adventurous spirit and sense of humor. During her college years, she spent summers working in Ocean City, New Jersey, creating cherished memories that she carried with her. Those who met her remembered her joyful personality, characterized by unconditional love and warmth.
In honor of Carole’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Nanticoke Christian Fellowship church, reflecting her commitment to community and faith. Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 13:00 to 15:00 at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, located at 170 East Broad St., Nanticoke. A memorial service will follow, officiated by Pastor David Pegarella of Nanticoke Christian Fellowship.
