allentown-launches-free-health-supply-vending-machines

Allentown has introduced its first public health vending machine, providing residents with free and confidential access to essential health supplies. Located at The Lehigh Conference of Churches, situated at 457 W. Allen St., this machine is available 24 hours a day, making critical health resources readily accessible to the community.

The vending machine dispenses a variety of vital supplies, including naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medication, as well as wound care kits, reproductive and sexual health kits, hygiene items, first-aid supplies, and educational materials. Future plans for the machine include the addition of menstrual products, such as pads and tampons, along with space for toothbrushes and other hygiene necessities, tailored to the evolving needs of the community.

Supporting Community Health Initiatives

This initiative is part of Allentown’s broader public health strategy, spearheaded by the Substance Use Task Force. The city’s goal is to enhance healthcare access and eliminate barriers that residents face in obtaining necessary health supplies. By placing these machines in trusted, easily accessible locations and providing instructions in both English and Spanish, Allentown aims to address significant public health challenges.

Funding for the vending machines has been sourced from opioid settlement funds. The Allentown Health Bureau is also actively seeking donations of menstrual products. Community members can purchase disposable sanitary supplies through Amazon, which can be shipped directly to the Health Bureau, or they can be delivered in person to 245 N. 6th Street.

For inquiries regarding the vending machines or contributions, residents can contact the Allentown Health Bureau at 610-437-7760. The city plans to expand the number of vending machines throughout Allentown, further supporting its commitment to improving public health access for all residents.
