The acclaimed actor Timothée Chalamet revealed his intense preparation for his latest role in the film “Marty Supreme,” where he portrays Marty Mauser, a passionate young table tennis player. In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America,” Chalamet shared that he spent six years working with a table tennis coach to authentically embody his character’s drive and determination.
“Marty Mauser is someone who will do whatever it takes to become a champion,” Chalamet explained. He emphasized his connection to the character’s ambitions, noting, “He has a huge dream. When you have a big dream in life, and you don’t really have anyone supporting you when you’re young, you’re your best supporter.” The actor reflected on the dual nature of self-belief, which can inspire both positive and negative traits. He stated, “‘No’ is not in his vocabulary. He compromises with no one, including himself.”
Chalamet’s personal experiences resonated with his role, revealing, “A significant part of who I was in my early 20s or late teens was deeply motivated to have an acting career.” He conveyed a message of pursuing dreams, saying that aspirations do not have to be selfish. “This story represents the idea that you can pursue a singular dream, whether it’s becoming the greatest table tennis player or something else, but ultimately, the ride is worth it,” he added.
In a pivotal scene in the film, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s character, Kay Stone, confronts Marty with the question, “What do you plan to do if this little dream of yours doesn’t work out?” Chalamet admitted that this line struck a personal chord. He shared that his own family encouraged him to have alternative plans earlier in his career. Reflecting on this advice, he noted, “At 29 years old, I can look back and go, ‘That was actually great advice.'”
Chalamet expressed the hope that “Marty Supreme” could serve as inspiration for audiences, stating, “I hope this movie can serve as that engine for everyone, encouraging them to dream big.”
The film also marks the acting debut of Kevin O’Leary, known for his role as a judge on “Shark Tank.” Chalamet praised O’Leary’s performance, stating, “He was fantastic in the movie.” He highlighted O’Leary’s confidence, noting, “The biggest thing that can read as insincere is a level of tension or anxiety. Kevin had none of that. He was all swagger.”
Chalamet described acting alongside Paltrow as a learning experience, saying it made him feel “naive” about her exceptional talent. “I would act opposite her and go, ‘Wow. She’s really incredible,'” he remarked.
In preparation for “Marty Supreme,” Chalamet transitioned from casual table tennis to serious training. He dedicated six years to enhance his skills, ensuring he could convincingly portray a competitive player on screen.
As part of the film’s promotional efforts, Chalamet has been engaged in a vibrant press tour that includes unique marketing strategies such as an orange ping-pong ball blimp and limited-edition merchandise. He emphasized the importance of creativity in promotion, stating, “The principal part is … a feeling of authorship.”
Chalamet expressed his desire for the film’s success, stating, “I want everything to win.” When asked what success looks like, he confidently asserted, “I feel confident that by next summer, I know what it’s gonna be.”
“Marty Supreme” premiered on December 8, 2025, in Beverly Hills, California, and showcases a mix of talent, including Chalamet, Paltrow, and O’Leary. As anticipation builds, audiences can expect a film that not only entertains but also inspires.
