Sweden’s television landscape is set to expand with the launch of the culinary competition show, 100 Knives. This ambitious project, commissioned by TV4, marks the first global order for a format co-developed by Banijay Entertainment, Bunim/Murray Productions, and Smart Dog Media.
High-Stakes Culinary Showdown
“100 Knives is a format that truly stands out in a noisy market,”
stated Fredrik Arefalk, Director of Channels and Content at TV4. The show features a unique premise where 100 chefs, ranging from food truck owners to fine dining apprentices, compete in a high-pressure kitchen environment. Each episode will see teams face escalating challenges, with chefs eliminated until one emerges as the ultimate winner.
The production promises to deliver a captivating mix of competition, dreams, emotions, and culinary expertise, engaging audiences with its intense format. Matilda Snöwall, CEO of Mastiff Sweden, emphasized the appeal of larger-than-life formats, noting,
“Audiences are gravitating to supersized formats with real emotional stakes.”
Production and Future Prospects
Mastiff Sweden, known for producing local adaptations of popular shows like Survivor and Love is Blind, will oversee the creation of 100 Knives. The company has a strong track record, also partnering on various adaptations of Netflix’s reality programming. The new show is part of Banijay’s strategic push to introduce original formats at MIPCOM 2025, an international content market and conference.
James Townley, Chief Content Officer of Development at Banijay Entertainment, highlighted the collaborative effort behind 100 Knives, stating,
“From its early development stages to first commission, 100 Knives is testament to how collaboration heightens creative ambition.”
As the culinary competition gears up for its prime-time debut, TV4 aims to engage viewers by amplifying the energy of professional kitchens. With its blend of drama, teamwork, and culinary skill, 100 Knives sets the stage for an engaging television experience, promising to capture the hearts of audiences across Sweden and potentially beyond.
